Maffra traders have re-united five years after the cessation of the former Chamber of Commerce and will relaunch a tourism and business association.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester arranged a meeting of business and community representatives to initiate the reestablishment of a community development group to encourage more visitors to the town and help grow the local economy.

Mr Chester said he had been approached individually by several Maffra residents and business owners who could see the need to establish a Maffra tourism and business association.

“The meeting was well attended and there were some great ideas thrown around,” Mr Chester said.

“The meeting was open to all business owners and community representatives and we had about 30 people attend – most were keen to commit their time and resources to help grow Maffra and revitalise some of the festivals and events of the past.”

Mr Chester said Maffra had a reputation as a “can-do” community and he commended the new generation of business owners which had stepped forward and committed their time to make the community even better.

The first Annual General Meeting for the Maffra tourism and business association will be held on Wednesday June 17, 2015, at Duart’s Homestead in Maffra.
