Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is urging local Vietnam War veterans to register for a  special commemorative medallion.

The Australian Government has produced a 50th anniversary commemorative medallion and certificate of recognition, honouring the service of Australians who served in the Vietnam War.

“There are many Vietnam veterans in our community who may appreciate the medallion,” Mr Chester said.

“The medallion honours the service of Vietnam veterans and recognises the sacrifice of those who never returned home, and that of their families.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War where 60,000 Australians served and we suffered the loss of 523 personnel, along with 3,000 wounded.

“This is a small but meaningful way to honour those who served and the families that supported them.”

The medallions are available for every Australian who served in Vietnam, and the family of veterans who have since passed away or were killed in action during the war.
