Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is calling on Gippslanders to join him in supporting a major fundraising drive for Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.

Together with Traralgon Rotary and Campbell’s Quality Meats, Mr Chester will host a sausage sizzle outside his Traralgon office in Franklin Street between 10am-2pm on July 11 to raise money for the House, which offers affordable accommodation for patients and their families attending the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre at Latrobe Regional Hospital.

The “House Party” initiative is led by ACE Radio Network, home of TRFM and Gold 1242. The network is co-ordinating a Gippsland-wide morning of celebration on Saturday July 19 and donations can be made up until this date.

Community groups throughout Gippsland are invited to host a morning tea, sausage sizzle or fancy/casual dress day and donate funds to Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.

Mr Chester encouraged all community and corporate organisations to get behind the fundraiser.

“Gippsland Rotary Centenary House offers a wonderful community service in providing affordable and comfortable accommodation for cancer patients and their families during treatment,” Mr Chester said.

“I’m sure there are plenty of groups out there who will jump at this opportunity to raise funds for the House.”

Gippsland Rotary Centenary House Operations Manager Carol Crewe said the house provided accommodation to families all over Gippsland, not just the Latrobe Valley.

“Centenary House is pleased to be able to offer accommodation to patients and families of the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre. Having access to affordable and supportive accommodation means that some of their stress is reduced while they receive lifesaving treatment,” Ms Crewe said.

“This initiative by ACE Radio is a fantastic and fun way for groups and individuals from across the region to support those in the community undergoing treatment for cancer.
“As a community organisation, Gippsland Rotary Centenary House relies heavily on the generous support from local families, groups and businesses. Every donation helps and allows us to maintain low fees for those who need to stay at Centenary House while they receive treatment at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre.”
