Young people with a sense of adventure should consider applying to set sail with STS Young Endeavour according to Member for Gippsland and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence Darren Chester.

The ballot to take a trip with Young Endeavour in the first half of 2016 is now open for young Australians aged 16-23 years and will close on 5 October.

“A voyage with Young Endeavour not only teaches young people the skills they need to navigate and sail a tall ship, it also teaches them teamwork, leadership and resilience,” Mr Chester said.

“More than 12,000 young Australians have voyaged on Young Endeavour over the last 25 years. This is an experience of a lifetime and one that will stay with them forever.”

Mr Chester said the ship would return to Australian from her current round the world voyage to sail from Fremantle, Western Australia and stopping at Esperance, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney. Following a short break Young Endeavour will then sail to Newcastle, Brisbane and Gladstone.

“The crew is fully supported whilst on board by Royal Australian Navy crew and the feedback that I have received from past participants has been very positive,” Mr Chester said.

As the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme is a not for profit organisation it is possible for those interested in supporting the program to make a tax deductible donation to the Young Endeavour Public Trust Fund.
