STRATFORD MEN LOOK TO EXPAND SHED

May 27, 2013

Members of the Stratford Men’s Shed have embarked on a number of projects for local community groups and are now looking to expand their facility to provide more services.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has been briefed on the plans by the group, which hopes to attract government funding support.

The expansion would provide a dedicated welding bay to support the development of a wider range of community projects as well as toilet facilities which are currently non-existent forcing volunteers to use bathrooms located at the adjoining Senior Citizens centre.

Mr Chester said the Stratford Men’s Shed had been operating for three years with 30 serving members.

“Members of the Stratford Men’s Shed have already completed a wide range of projects using recycled timber to make bread boards, mail boxes and bird feeders as well as improving community facilities,” Mr Chester said.

“They are volunteers from all walks of life and it’s a great way for them to socialise in a comfortable environment and at the same time, provide a valuable contribution to the local community.

“There are a number of men’s sheds across Gippsland which are getting men under one roof to undertake practical tasks for the benefit of their local community and improving their interaction with community health providers as they are often reluctant to access services in a more formal setting.”
