LAKES OIL TOUR OF GIPPSLAND

July 27, 2009

In a huge boost to the Tour of Gippsland, two up and coming Australian cyclists have joined the field that will compete over five days, visiting towns from Traralgon to Lakes Entrance, beginning July 29.

The news is another positive for the Gippsland event according to The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester, who welcomed the announcement and is looking forward to seeing the race wind its way through the countryside.

“The addition of Jack Bobridge and Leigh Howard to an already strong field is great news for the upcoming Tour of Gippsland,” Mr Chester said.

“It will make for an exciting race and set against the surrounds of Gippsland, I’m sure there will be plenty of reasons for spectators to get along and support the event.”

Mr Chester said the Tour of Gippsland provides many benefits for the region and commended the support the event receives from local businesses in the region.

“Gippsland receives great exposure from the event and the influx to the local economy from participating riders, teams, cycling enthusiasts and other tourists is very important to local businesses and tourism operators,” Mr Chester said.

“The support that has come for the event from the local business community throughout Gippsland has been exceptional and I commend those who have sponsored the event over the past five years.

“Going forward I urge other local businesses to get involved in similar events throughout Gippsland that also have the capacity to benefit the region.”
