Traralgon’s Pax Hill Tennis Club will receive help from the Federal Government to go ahead and resurface two of its courts.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester announced $15,000 had been approved so the committee can commence resurfacing work.

“Pax Hill Tennis Club is a popular community club, with more than 100 students involved in coaching programs, but the court surface is aged and in need of updating,” Mr Chester said.

“The current surface is cracked and despite temporary repairs made over time, resurfacing is now the best option.

“I’m delighted to announce that the Federal Government has approved $15,000 for the project from the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program.”

Pax Hill Tennis Club’s Financial Treasurer and Fundraising Coordinator Barb Webb said the club is “very grateful for Darren Chester’s support with our plight to improve the court’s surface”.

“This will bring our club into the next phase of its life. A new fresher look, a perfect playing surface and kinder on the body to boot!” she said.

“Members’ families and committee members have been fundraising for many years to financially contribute to this project and we are proud to be able to match the funding offered by the Federal Government.

“The committee has consulted with many tennis court surfacing companies and our resident coaches have played a vital role with researching surfaces with the committee.

“We feel the new acrylic ‘sportspave’ high performance surface will be much talked about by our visiting opposition teams who in the past have had a laugh saying when they play at Pax it is like playing on the road.”

Pax Hill Tennis has four courts and the committee is seeking Latrobe City Council’s support to complete resurfacing of the other two courts at the same time. Resurfacing work is expected to begin within four weeks so the courts will be ready for the summer tennis season.

Mr Chester said $300,000 had been allocated to the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program over two years to fund small capital projects in Gippsland.
