A new footpath and road upgrades on Cemetery Road, Sale, will improve driver and pedestrian safety.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said he was pleased to see the works being undertaken by a local contractor, East Gippsland Road Maintenance.

The footpath will connect new residential areas on the Sale-Maffra Road to Dawson Street. Road upgrades will also improve driver safety.

“The Federal Government is providing $440,000 toward the project which is being managed by Wellington Shire Council,” Mr Chester said.

“It is one of many Roads To Recovery projects underway in the region.

“Wellington Shire Council will receive $4.4 million from the Federal Government this financial year under the Roads To Recovery program to upgrade roads and bridges across the Shire according to their own local priorities.”

Wellington Shire Mayor, Councillor Carolyn Crossley said: “Wellington Shire Council appreciated the support from the Federal Government to assist in funding the first stage of this project to improve safety for those living in the Woondella and Glebe housing estates.”

“Once the Woondella-Glebe Shared Path project is complete, residents of these new areas of Sale will have improved roads and safe pedestrian access to the Sale CBD.”

Other Roads To Recovery projects being funded by the Federal Government in Wellington Shire include Boodyarn Bridge, Napier Bridge and Trenton Valley Road Bridge (all in Won Wron); Toms Cap Bridge at Willung South, Lays Bridge at Carrajung Lower and Pound Road West at Alberton West.
