Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester officially opened the Australian Wood Design Exhibition which is at the Orbost Exhibition Centre until June 19.

Mr Chester is pictured with Bairnsdale wood-worker Trevor Herbstreit and event organiser Crystal Stubbs.

Trevor’s piece, the ‘Scimitar Skeleton Clock’ won an overall prize. The intricate piece took two years to make and features red gum reclaimed from a 100 year old home when it was demolished.

The wood design exhibition has been running since 1994 with a dedicated team of volunteers providing an opportunity for talented wood-workers to demonstrate their work.

“We have some incredibly talented artists across Gippsland and the diversity of creative pieces on display is incredible,” Mr Chester said.

“We need to spread the word across Gippsland and encourage everyone with an interest in wood design to visit the centre, check out this year’s competition entries and also the outstanding pieces which have been acquired over the years.

“Well done to the volunteers who run the exhibition and maintain the Orbost Exhibition Centre.”
