Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says he is optimistic about securing funding for a multi-million upgrade of the Princes Highway in Sale, after meetings in Canberra this week.

Mr Chester said the Wellington Shire Council plan to overhaul the streetscape, improve the safety of key intersections and construct long vehicle parking opportunities at the Port of Sale was well received.

“I’ve had positive discussions with the office of the Deputy Prime Minister and I’m optimistic we will receive some support to boost the funding already committed by the Shire,” Mr Chester said.

“The Princes Highway through Sale doesn’t encourage travellers to stop and take a break and we need to improve the streetscape to make it more attractive to visitors.

“At the same time, making the highway safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians will require intersection to upgrades and other road treatments.

“Wellington Shire Council has developed an excellent plan and I’m determined to secure Federal Government funding support to allow this important work to start and create more local jobs.”
