Glassford Street Kindergarten in Maffra has applied for funding to build a new room so it can run three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten simultaneously.

The kindergarten in partnership with Wellington Shire Council has lodged an application for $300,000 from the State Government.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has lent his support to the project and this week met with some of the families who would benefit from the upgrade.

Mr Chester has contacted his State Parliamentary colleague, the Victorian Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development, Wendy Lovell, to convey the benefits the expansion would deliver to the Maffra community.

“There is a dedicated group of parents working with Uniting Care Gippsland to extend the current Glassford Street Kindergarten site, with plans to incorporate further children’s services in the future,” Mr Chester said.

“It is important for local families to have three and four-year-old kindergarten together on the one site to provide better access for families and to link with other visiting children’s services.

“The proposal is to build a new multi-purpose room and office as an extension to the existing Glassford Street Kindergarten site, capitalising on the existing facilities and land available.

“The extension will provide sufficient space to also run occasional care programs and playgroups.”
