Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed progress on the replacement of the Genoa pedestrian bridge which was destroyed in last summer’s bushfires.

Mr Chester said the 93-year-old footbridge was the centrepiece of the town and a great loss for the Genoa community.

“The bridge provides a vital link between the town and the recreation reserve which is increasingly popular with the travelling public,” Mr Chester said.

“Work is progressing and it’s great to see local contractors, Jarvis Norwood Constructions getting on with the job.

“Once complete there will be safe pedestrian access from the Genoa River and into town, which will be great news for locals and visitors to East Gippsland.”

The Federal Government is working with East Gippsland Shire Council to deliver the project.
