Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the announcement of round six of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack recently announced $250 million in the next round of funding.

“The Building Better Regions Fund is an excellent opportunity to fund local projects,” Mr Chester said.

“Many projects throughout our region have already benefited from previous rounds of BBRF.

“Improving community infrastructure not only supports local jobs but helps boost the local economy.

Mr Chester encouraged local councils and community groups with projects to prepare an application.

“There are some fantastic infrastructure projects underway in Gippsland right now, but there is still more to be done and I encourage local organisations with projects to submit an application,” Mr Chester said.

“This program is designed to support projects in regional communities like upgrades to sporting facilities, community halls, pools and roads.”

“As we recover from the impacts of drought, bushfires and the coronavirus pandemic it is essential that we are getting stuff done and seeing projects underway.”

Guidelines and the opening of applications will be announced soon.
