MY FIRST SPEECH COMPETITION OPEN FOR 2013

May 29, 2013

Local students could win the chance speak at the 25th anniversary celebrations of  Parliament House in Canberra by entering the My First Speech competition according to Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

Mr Chester said the competition was open to Year 10 to 12 students from across the nation.

He said two winners would be selected to speak at Parliament House during the 25th anniversary Open Day being held on August 24, 2013.

“Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebrations of Parliament House is a great opportunity and will no doubt be an incredible experience for any student,” Mr Chester said.

“Many schools get the chance throughout the year to visit Parliament House while on school camp in Canberra but it’s rare that students are able to get this kind of access to the floor of Parliament.

“Young people are the next generation of leaders within our community and it would be fantastic to see a student from Gippsland there to represent our region.”

The My First Speech competition asks year 10 to 12 students to consider what they would say if they were a newly elected Member of the House of Representatives and record themselves presenting the speech on video.

Alongside the trip to Canberra, the winning students and their schools will also receive a cash prize.
