A new era of economic opportunity through sport is on its way to Sale following today’s opening of Stage 2A at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said a synthetic hockey field and sports pavilion had been completed as Stage 2A, which would capable of attracting hockey matches to the region.
“The project has delivered a synthetic playing field, shelter and player benches, and a pavilion which will become the new home of Sale Hockey Club,” Mr Chester said.
“Importantly, the new complex will host four major events each year, including the University and Master Games, inter-school and regional competitions.
“These types of events bring people into our community to support local businesses, boosting economic activity and job growth in the region.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Liberal and Nationals’ Government’s $600,000 investment would create more opportunities for locals.
“In addition to the 18 jobs already created during construction, the new sports complex will encourage greater participation in a range of sports, while also promoting sports tourism in the region through attracting more regional sports events to Gippsland,” Mr McCormack said.
Mayor of Wellington Shire, Cr Carolyn Crossley said the project would enable Sale to host sports academy programs and support the region’s Victorian League team and the Gippsland Bulls.
“This is a modern facility which is sure to invigorate the huge cross-sections of the community, including those with disabilities, who will benefit from easier access and greater opportunities to exercise and engage in our sports programs,” Cr Crossley said.
This project was jointly funded with the Liberal and Nationals’ Government investing $600,000, the Victorian Government $650,000, Wellington Shire Council $1,360,000, John Leslie Foundation $1,000,000 and community contributions of $50,000.
