The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is once again supporting local businesses in their campaign to shop locally and create local jobs.
Reinforcing the shop local message, Mr Chester visited new business Shoe Affair in Bairnsdale this week.
Shoe Affair opened in August last year and owner Sally-Ann Kelly said the holiday traffic had provided a welcome boost during the Easter break.
“Most of us are well aware that by shopping locally or utilising local tradesmen and contractors we will retain a strong small business sector and help to create jobs and opportunities for young people to have a future in our region,” Mr Chester said.
“Rather than shopping online, I’m encouraging locals to really think about the shop locally message and make time to enjoy the attractions and businesses available in our community.”
“Small businesses create jobs for young people; they support sports club and community events and really are the lifeblood of our regional communities.” The Shoe Affair stocks well-known brands Mollini, Top End, Django and Juliette together with Siren, Verali, Rollie, Lunar, Martini Marco, Elvio Zanon, Frank/e and Valeria Grossi.
Ms Kelly said local business owners don’t expect to make a sale every time a customer walks through the door and encouraged locals to drop in and check out her new stock.
“I want ladies to come into my shop and feel comfortable. I have a lot of customers who call in, sometimes just for a chat, and that relationship building is a part of the job that I love,” Ms Kelly said.
“I opened the store because I love shoes, I enjoy selecting and opening new stock and sourcing products. I know not everyone enjoys shopping like I do; so I relish the chance to find them a pair of shoes that makes them feel good about their outfit.”
Ms Kelly said she has change facilities in the shop so customers can bring in outfits to try with many different shoes until they find the right pair.
“Shoe sizes can vary quite a bit, even within the same brand, so being able to try before you buy is particularly important with shoes,” Ms Kelly said. “And in my store, we have a lot of fun trying lots of pairs before you have to choose!”
