Soggy sausages will no longer be a problem for people using a popular barbecue in Bruthen’s Lions Park, which will get a new wet-weather shelter thanks to a Federal Government community grant.

Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the Lions Club of Bruthen would receive $5000 under the Stronger Communities Program to build a pavilion over the existing barbecue.

The new pavilion will enable the barbecue to be used in all weather conditions.

“The Bruthen Lions Park is a popular destination for tourists and holiday-makers and encourages them to stay in the town for longer, supporting local businesses,” Mr Chester said.

“It will also encourage local families and the elderly to use the barbecues more often for picnics and social functions.”

The Lions Club of Bruthen will lead the project and had received support from Bunnings Bairnsdale, Bruthen Garden Supplies and Bruthen Men’s Shed.

Local volunteers will provide new garden beds and plantings, while students from Bruthen Primary School will install creative artwork, with the guidance of the local community.

The project has the approval of East Gippsland Shire, with the park being located on shire land.
